WHAT IS ARCTIC PULSE?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Arctic Pulse is a Canadian-led international science initiative that will connect existing research projects, vessels and other science platforms from Canada and partner nations to enhance and streamline scientific work across Canadian Arctic regions. This new and innovative approach to connect, coordinate and enhance ongoing research activities aims to elevate what science we do and how we do it, in ways that support a sustainable future for all.
Arctic Pulse was established with generous start-up funding from Davie Shipbuilding. The Initiative is being led by Dr. Jackie Dawson at the University of Ottawa with participation from Polar Knowledge Canada, Global Affairs Canada, and Laval University. The Arctic Pulse secretariat is currently seeking partnerships with governments and institutions nationally and internationally. Arctic Pulse is interested in partnering with any organization that is committed to meaningful and inclusive Arctic science.
Arctic Pulse will support research projects focused geographically in the Canadian Arctic investigating a changing environment under climate change. A science plan will be co-developed detailing the major research themes and areas of interest. Our current focus is on research projects occurring during the field seasons of 2027, 2028, and 2029.
Arctic Pulse is not a funding initiative. The vision of Arctic Pulse is to leverage resources and share information to enhance collaboration on research that will support decision making at the global, regional, and local level.
Arctic Pulse will be attending and participating in numerous meetings and conferences, nationally and internationally, in the coming year. Refer to the Engagements page for more information.
